Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Vistiors Bureau (CVB)

The Montevideo Area Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization that provides, through the power of its membership, a variety of services for not only its members but the entire Montevideo area as well.

The Chamber draws upon the ideas, talents, energies, and leadership of its members to achieve our set goals. By joining together, the Chamber’s membership is able to make a positive impact on the entire community. The Chamber’s various committees and task force groups work to bring about reform and improvements in the areas of workforce, economic, industrial, and community development, as well as tourism and other areas that affect the quality of life in our community. Chamber of Commerce membership is not a contribution; it is an investment in the future.

The Montevideo Area Chamber of Commerce is to foster and promote our community and surrounding area.

To accomplish our mission we will:

  • Use our resources to be an influential regional leader to encourage, support, and drive business growth in the community.
  • Work to maintain and improve area events.
  • Maintain strong support of our new and existing businesses.
  • Continue to promote and support economic development.

Convention & Visitors Bureau

The Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) of the Montevideo Area Chamber of Commerce is a division dedicated to promoting Montevideo as a destination for tourism, conventions, and meetings. Its mission is to actively seek new opportunities to bring Montevideo to the attention of tourists, convention planners, and local residents by highlighting the city’s historic treasures, traditions, outdoor recreation, and local artists. The CVB works to showcase Montevideo’s unique character — from its rich history and scenic river valley to its growing arts scene and natural attractions — to attract visitors and strengthen the local economy.

CVB Tourism Funding Request Application

The City of Montevideo and the Montevideo Convention & Visitors Bureau offer funding to be used to attract, develop, or promote special projects, events, or attractions that will bring visitors to Montevideo, thereby increasing overnight stays in hotels and/or tourism spending. Complete this form to request funding. CVB supports events and activities that benefit Montevideo’s community and/or the surrounding communities. Requests need to be received 60 days in advance of the event. If the form is not received 60 days prior to event, the form is invalid. Applications received after the second Monday of the month will be reviewed at the following meeting.

Attach total project budget included with the application. Bids and/or price estimates supplied by your vendor(s) are required. * Funds can generally be used for food at an event, provided it is part of the marketing, promotion, free meals, or operations of a special event or festival designed to attract tourists.

If funding is awarded, CVB will require proof of allocated funds spent. Funds will be distributed after post-event survey is received. CVB will send sponsorship agreement, post-event survey form, and a media kit with instructions on how to acknowledge the CVB funding.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR FUNDING, REQUESTS MUST BE USED FOR ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES
• Tourism marketing (flyers, print, radio, advertising) • Marketing and operations of unique events and festivals designed to attract tourists. *If funding is requested for food, there can be no charge for food at event. • Operations of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by nonprofit organizations as defined by the IRC 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6). Proof of non-profit status will be required.

APPLICANT ELEGIBILTY
• All projects and/or events must occur within the Montevideo Chamber service area. • The event must be marketed and open to the public. • Grantee organizations may not re-grant funds. • Grantee organizations must be in good standing and without outstanding debt to the City of Montevideo. • The event or marketing opportunity must demonstrate a significant economic/cultural impact as relates to tourism, which may be achieved by showing documented hotel room nights booked and/or the number of tourists traveling into Montevideo from outside their home communities.

Minnesota state law requires that these lodging tax dollars be used to promote the area as a travel destination. This means the money must be spent on marketing, advertising, and efforts that encourage people from outside the area to visit Montevideo area. The funds cannot be used for general community or government expenses. In addition to the City of Montevideo, CVB also promotes the surrounding towns within ten miles.

The CVB meets on the second Monday of each month, we will review requests at that time. If request is approved, a Sponsorship Agreement will need to be signed by parties involved.
